How to use Ixpenz
Ixpenz keeps your household's money in notebooks, saved straight from your chat in ChatGPT. You write a sentence or send a photo of a receipt; Ixpenz checks it, stores it and adds it up.
What Ixpenz does
- Saves expenses, income, refunds and transfers from a receipt photo or a sentence.
- Keeps them in notebooks: Personal is only yours, and shared notebooks such as Family have the members you invite.
- Answers what you spent, where, and how much is left this month.
- Lets you correct, move, delete and restore a record, and undo a correction.
- Remembers your salary, rent and regular transfers, so “I got my salary” saves the usual amount.
Ixpenz does not read your receipts. ChatGPT reads them and passes Ixpenz the values; Ixpenz checks them, looks for a duplicate and saves them. A notebook records what came in and went out. It holds no balance and no money, and Ixpenz does not connect to your bank.
Connect Ixpenz
Ixpenz works in ChatGPT. Connect it once; with the same account your notebooks are the same everywhere you use ChatGPT.
- Find Ixpenz in ChatGPT's app directory and select Connect.
- Sign in to Ixpenz with a password, an email code or Google or Apple, or create an account. On first sign-up choose your notebooks, then allow access.
- Back in the chat, send a receipt photo or write what you spent.
Ixpenz is built for ChatGPT and says nothing about other assistants. Cards that you edit in place keep what they saved only in ChatGPT.
Notebooks and defaults
Every record belongs to one notebook. Personal is made for you: only you see it, and it cannot be shared, left or deleted. Income goes to Personal. Expenses go to Family if you chose Family at sign-up, otherwise to Personal. Name a notebook to put a record elsewhere; if it is unclear, ChatGPT asks.
Recording receipts and income
Send a photo of a receipt or write the amount. A receipt gets one category (Groceries, Transport, Health and so on). If the same amount, date and shop already exist in the notebook, Ixpenz shows both and asks whether it is the same receipt. Income that you record goes to Personal unless you name a shared notebook.
Refunds and transfers
A refund is its own record that lowers that month's spending and is not income. Ixpenz links it to the original receipt when it finds it. A transfer moves money from Personal or a notebook into another notebook you belong to: it is income for the receiver and counts as neither spending nor income in your own totals.
Summaries and history
Ask for a summary of a period, a category or a project, or search the history by shop, note, item or member. Totals are in the notebook's home currency; each record keeps its original amount and currency.
Fixed amounts and what's left
Save a salary, a bill or a regular transfer once, with its usual day of the month. Nothing is recorded by itself on that day; you say it happened. What's left for a month is the income received, including transfers in, minus bills paid, bills still due, other spending and transfers out. Income you expect but have not recorded yet is listed, not counted. Ixpenz sends no reminders.
Projects
A project groups records inside one notebook, such as a renovation or a trip, so you can total them on their own. A record has at most one project. A closed project keeps its records and takes no new ones.
Correcting, undo and moving
Change a category, amount, date, shop, project or notebook. Every correction is kept, and you can undo it. Moving a record to another notebook changes who can see it, and a refund moves with its original. A transfer cannot be moved.
Deleting and restoring
Ixpenz says what will be deleted and deletes only after you answer yes in a message. Deleting an expense deletes its refunds, and a transfer goes on both sides. A deleted record can be brought back for 30 days.
Location
Location is optional and never added by itself. An expense card has an Add location button that stores where you were, with a map link. It works in ChatGPT on the web and on iPhone. It does not work in the ChatGPT Android app, where you can type the place in a message instead. When a new receipt matches a shop and address with a saved location, the card offers to use it, and that works on Android too.
Inviting and leaving
The owner of a notebook invites people and removes them. An invite is a link for one person, valid for 7 days; send it yourself, for example in a messenger. Anyone can leave a shared notebook. Their records stay in it, and they get a copy of the expenses, refunds and income they recorded in their Personal notebook. If the owner leaves, the longest-standing member becomes owner.
Language and currency
Cards and replies come in 11 languages. A notebook's home currency is the one its totals are converted into, at the rate of each record's date; changing it recalculates the totals and keeps every original.
Your data: export and deletion
Export gives you a ZIP of one notebook or of all of them: a CSV of the records and their receipt photos. The download link works for 24 hours. To delete your account, Ixpenz shows what goes and what stays, offers an export first, and deletes only after you press Delete everything on its card or type the word delete. It cannot be undone.
